IBC Engineering, an engineering consulting firm specializing in innovative design building systems, is proud to announce it has completed services for the renovation of the HVAC system at Thomas Gosnell Hall on the Rochester Institute of Technology campus in Rochester, NY.
Thomas Gosnell Hall, is home to the College of Science which includes undergraduate and graduate programs in mathematics, biology, bioinformatics, physics and medical sciences. IBC Engineering was selected to provide mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering design services to support this particular project as part of a large campus master plan. Specifically, the project scope included renovating mechanical systems, as well as the other building M/E/P infrastructure supporting classrooms, labs and department offices.
As such, the building has a complicated infrastructure including multiple chases. Addressing the needs of all the individual spaces while fitting in the available space and ceilings required extensive documentation of existing conditions prior to design and construction. Cooling was added to half the building by replacing three large air handlers in the basement mechanical room. Additionally, all 26 exhaust fans were replaced with 14 larger fans allowing for redundancy, diversity and a more energy efficient solution with fans only turned on when needed. New air values were in installed in all labs as well.
To complete the $2.7 million project, the company worked closely with the Rochester Institute of Technology to ensure a smooth design process. This project was completed in October 2017.
