The project created a three story, 60,000 SF Medical Office Building within Ithaca’s City Harbor Community. The major goal of this project was to design a Carbon Neutral Building, while also providing institutional grade HVAC systems that are practical, easily maintained and monitored.

Results:

A Carbon Neutral Building was provided. The design included:

• Water to water heat pump chillers that generate hot and chilled water simultaneously
• Modular scroll chillers paired together to provide combined 155 tons of chilled water and 2,500 MBH of hot water
• Utilized adjacent Ithaca Wastewater Treatment Plant to incorporate wastewater discharge effluent that absorbs and rejects heat utilized for the heat pump plant
• Four central station VAV Air Handling Units
• Chilled beam fan coils
